What a Bull can tell to a Man

This photo was published in Facebook and I copied it here because the story of it touched me deeply.

This is a moment when a bull did not want to fight with the man. Wounded, he stand in front of the man and looked in his eyes with the expression:  I don't want to fight with you. I feel bad because I'm wounded. You can kill me if you want. But I did nothing to you.

Toreador closed the fight, went away from the arena, became vegetarian and is an opponent of all corridas now.

A Dream Of The Calf

Yes, I'm little today. My mother and my aunts are so big and beautiful. I pass under their legs today. But I'll eat good -and I have not cry about the meals because the milk of my mother is the best of all the foods! And I'll grow fast and will become so big and beautiful as that young bull that goes to partecipate in the show now. I bet he will win! And I will -when I grow so as he is! I will be even better!

A Name Of Mrs Ox

In a post of Footiam I read about a game: a Chinese Astrology site. There I read that this year is a year of the Brown Cow. Than, because I was born in a year of Ox, the forecast for this year for me is not good. So I wrote in my Facebook page that I'm sad about it.

Here I post the conversation with one of my Facebook friends about it:

-This got my wondering, never heard of the Chinese sign Cow. It should be Ox, and this year is the year of the Ox
-The sign is Ox but female. Female of Ox has to be Cow or not?
-Not sure, I don't think so: "Oxen may comprehend both the male and the female". A man cow is a bull, female cow = cow.
Ox - cows = different 'species' ;-)
But not one to nit-pick
-Mmmm... something is wrong with the translation from Chinese, I think... Or our mentality is not the same with Chinese mentality...
I'm not so expert in English, so allow me a curiosity: if bulls and pxes are different species, what is the name of missis Ox? :-)))
-English is my second language too (Dutch). Mrs Ox = Mrs Ox I think ;-)

So, I read in the dictionary about it and found that
Ox is -bull;
-any representative of bulls-family
Bull is -bull;
-any representative of males of big animals (like whales, alligators)

So, Ox is the best word for the cause. But the year is a year of the female of the Ox. Is her name not Cow?

Italian Cattle Breeds

There were different cattle breeds in agricultural show we visited saturday. The names of breeds are written over the animals. Not all are so big as Chianina bull from my previous post. But Limousine (mmm... it'f Franch name...) maybe would bigger if he raised in feet. On the first photo you see the moment of competition of young, non married, cows ;)))


These are really ponderous:


The bull was enormous. But look at his "face". Seems to be like a little child.

All the day of Saturday we passed in the agricultural show in Bastia Umbra (North of Italy if you see it from us). We go there sometimes, because we can go there and turn back in one day. There are 400 km one side. I wanted to write some posts about animals I saw there, and today I wanted to begin with this story that I hope you will like.

This beauty is a bull of a Chianina breed (breed from Chianin is better as a translation). It's a champion, and his master took him in the center of the place to attract persons to visit his agricultural farm. They are very popular now in Italy.


The man was sooo little near this beast, and you could not understand who allows him to stay here in center of the crowd with this potential bomb. Nobody of other cattlemen remained with their animals out of the special places. If they had, they took the animal away with all possible speed. But not this man.
There were so many persons there with little babies near them. Everybody was some afraid and stand about a meter far from them (as it could help, this meter if the bull wanted to do something).


But it was absolutely incredible to stay with them even some minute and to hear this man speaking with the bull and -the animal that did everything the man wanted from him. Like this:

- Look here, you stay too near to this line. It's not good. Go back! -and the bull makes a step back! -No, not so, more back, more, go! -and the bull makes a step back!!!


- He is so quite, I said, with all these persons.
- He is accustomed to stay with people all the day, answered the man, he is the main attraction of our farm.
- How old is he?
- 3 years.
- How many years can he live?
- I don't know. He is a champion and we will give him in the other farm now.


I could not resist to make a photo with this Power. Even if I was a little afraid the same. When I watched the photo now, I said, animals are incredibly tolerant with us. Imagine, everybody wants to touch him all the day, everybody makes photos... And he has so quiet "face".

Funny bull ?

I like these animals. The incarnation of the masculine incredibly beauty and power. Maybe for this reason men of all times like to resist them. But sometimes happen so funny stories:



I do not intend anything in rodeo, maybe it because I can't understand what are all they doing there. But if you see the face of the man after this show, he is content and so I think that was the same case as the first.

You can say me, you know everything about this animal. You eat it's meat every day. And you don't think about the eyes of a calf in the butchery. Those eyes, when the trusty calf comes to the man with a pistol, rises his great eyes and...

Here I don't want to tell you hard stories. No. I want to tell you, about this treasure that human being posesses.

"Toro" was the greatest animal in the forests of Europe. People have seen it as a totem, a sort of God. To this animal they entrust the lives of those joung men that had to leave their villages: you have to go where the bos leads you, and in that place you have to build your new village.

It was one of the most important parts of their economy too. Every part of it's body was precious. All the life of human being was bounded to the periods of life of these animal.

And when the men wanted to show his power, he went in the forest to affront "toro". Later they began to show these fights to all their society, to conquist their women and to show to be better as other men. This usage you can see today in Spain.

So much we are in debt to this animal and have at least think and speak about him with respect.
